Clothing care: tips for longer enjoyment
Buying clothes second-hand or through consignment is sustainable and unique. But if you want your favorite items to stay beautiful for a long time, it's important to take good care of them. In this blog, I'll share practical tips for washing, drying, repairing, and storing clothes, so you can enjoy them for longer.
Wash with care.
For worn clothing, it's best to wash gently. Use a mild detergent and choose the appropriate program, such as a cold wash or hand wash. This will keep the fabric looking good and the color fresh. For delicate fabrics or clothing with prints, you can use a laundry bag to prevent wear and tear.
Air dry
Air dry clothing whenever possible. The dryer can shrink or damage delicate fabrics. Hang clothes or lay them flat to maintain their shape. This is especially important for sweaters, delicate tops, and vintage items.
Do minor repairs yourself.
A loose button, a small hole, or a broken seam? I'll repair it myself. This way, clothes stay beautiful longer and you don't have to throw them away. It's a simple way to practice sustainable clothing care.
Tidy up
Hang clothes on a proper hanger or fold them neatly in the closet. This prevents wrinkles and damage. For stretchy clothing, such as sweaters or vests, I prefer to lay them flat to maintain their shape.
Fresh without washing
Sometimes, worn clothes don't need to be washed immediately. A night in an airtight bag in the freezer helps reduce bacteria. Or simply airing them out overnight might be enough.
Why proper maintenance is important
By properly maintaining your clothes, they will stay beautiful longer, you will save money, and you will contribute to sustainability and a circular wardrobe. Small effort, big effect!
